Seed Ban Action Alert

Seed Ban Action Alert

Take Action to Protect Legal Seeds Now!

There are 2 bills in Congress that, if enacted, would keep seeds legal.

In the U.S. House, Representative Andy Barr (R-KY) introduced the bipartisan Lawful Hemp Protection Act alongside Rep. Angie Craig (D-MN) in July 2026. The bill would  replace an impending federal ban on intoxicating hemp products with a strict national regulatory and taxation framework. The bill contains language to keep seeds legal.

In the Senate, a Continuing Resolution (CR) has been introduced to keep the government funded thru December 11. The CR contains language to delay the Federal ban on intoxicating hemp products from November 12 to December 11 to give more time for a reasonable regulatory solution. The CR includes language to delay the seed ban.

Unfortunately, Senator Budd (R-NC) has announced that he will be seeking to strip the hemp language from the Continuing Resolution.

Please Take Action!

Please contact your U.S. Senators today and urge them to oppose Senator Budd's proposed amendment, or any similar effort, to remove the hemp extension from the Continuing Resolution. The temporary extension included in the CR is important because it provides Congress with additional time to complete work on a thoughtful, long-term hemp policy, including regulation of seed based on the THC of the seed and not an unenforceable traceback system. rather than allowing a sweeping ban to take effect before those discussions are finished.

The extension:

  • Gives Congress time to finalize responsible hemp legislation, including for hemp seeds and genetics (Barr bill).
  • Protects American seed purveyors, researchers and genetic innovation from unnecessary disruption.
  • Supports regulations that keep intoxicating products out of the hands of minors while preserving lawful hemp products, including agricultural inputs such as seeds.
  • Allows bipartisan negotiations to continue toward a lasting legislative solution.

Please contact your Senators today and urge them to vote NO on Senator Budd's proposed amendment or any similar effort to strike the hemp extension from the Continuing Resolution.
